报告人简介:

Dr. Henry An holds the position of Full Professor and Chair in the Department of Resource Economics & Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Dr. An is an agricultural economist whose main areas of research are agricultural technology adoption and disadoption, consumer demand for genetically engineered foods, and food security. He has contributed to the development of technologies in agricultural practices, understanding consumer preferences for genetically engineered foods, promoting food security and economic development, and unraveling the complexities of food market structures. He has co-authored more than 25 impactful papers in journals such as American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, and Food Policy. His research program has received over $1 million worth of funding, and he has been the primary supervisor for over 20 graduate students. He is currently an associate editor for the journal Agribusiness. In addition to his research activities, he has also won several teaching awards, including the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) teaching award of excellence. He received his PhD in agricultural and resource economics from the University of California, Davis, his MSc in agricultural economics and business from the University of Guelph, and his BSc in molecular genetics and molecular biology from the University of Toronto.


报告内容:

This research seminar will present a series of papers that use different empirical approaches to examine a range of issues related to climate change and climate resilience in agricultural and environmental economics. The topics include: second-best policies to enhance soil organic carbon stocks, impact of drone technology on rice-crayfish farming, economically effective ways to reduce wildfire damages, residential relocation after natural disasters, and the trade-offs people make between food and energy consumption during extreme weather events. These papers use different quantitative methods and the empirical settings cover Canada, the United States, India and China.
